Maharashtra Government to reduce shortage in medical staff in prisons

On May 12, 2021, the Bombay High Court directed the State to:

1) Decongest the prisons as much as possible.

2) All the staff must undergo pulse oximeter reading, temperature reading and be tested for symptoms

3) They must wear masks and sanitize

4) Government must have all the prison staff vaccinated as soon as possible.

5) They should frame a policy to ensure that inmates have access to vaccines.

6) Nearly 1/3 of the vacancies for medical officers and para medical staff are unfilled in prisons. Effort must be taken to fill these vacancies in prisons.
