Madhya Pradesh releases ‘pension, education and ration’ scheme for children who have lost their parents to COVID

On 18th May, 2021 the Government of Madhya Pradesh formalised the ‘pension, education and ration’ scheme for children orphaned by COVID-19. The key features of the scheme have been reproduced below-

Who is eligible-

  • The family must be a resident of Madhya Pradesh

  • Both parents have died due to COVID-19.

  • If either the child’s mother/ father was previously deceased and the other parent has now succumbed to COVID-19.

  • If either the child’s mother and father were previously deceased and the child’s guardian has now succumbed to COVID-19.

  • If either the mother/father that succumbed to COVID-19 was the sole earning member in the family and the other parent is not in a position to gain employment.

What will be considered a COVID-19 death as per the scheme-

  • The deceased was suffering from COVID-19 and died during treatment.

  • The deceased was suffering from COVID-19 and after recovering he passed away within 2 months of first being infected with COVID-19.

  • If an RT-PCR test, RAT (Rapid Antigen Test), CT Scan or any other authorised medical test certifies that the deceased had COVID-19.

  • This shall be applicable to all persons who succumbed to COVID-19 after 1st March, 2020.

  • This child orphaned by COVID-19 must be under 21 years of age.

What is covered under the scheme-

  • Monthly pension- Rs. 5,000/- per month through the e-bank facilities. This will only be applicable till they reach the age of 21 years.

  • Monthly ration- This will be facilitated by the Department of Child Welfare.

  • Free Education- Children from class 1 to P.H.D. shall be given free education under this scheme.

    • For those pursuing higher education/ Professional course-

      • Fees equal to training fees

      • Rs. 1,500/- every month as sustenance allowance

      • Transport allowance of Rs. 500/- if situated in Municipal Corporation and Rs. 300/- if situated in a Palika

      • Point (b) and (c) shall be applicable for an academic session of 10 months

Essential Documents required-

  • Madhya Pradesh residence proof

  • Birth certificate to show proof of age

  • A certificate from the Medical Board stating that the deceased succumbed due to COVID-19

  • Certificate of declaration stating that the family isn’t already receiving government pension

  • Certificate of declaration stating that no benefit has already been received under the Chief Ministers Scheme

  • Copy of bank passbook

  • Passport size photograph

  • Group Family ID

  • Copy of Aadhar card

Authorised persons-

  • District Collector

  • Superintendent Police

  • Chief Executive Officer, District Council

  • District Chief Medical Officer

  • District Officer, Department of Social Justice and Welfare of Disabled
