Assam Government to consider persons who take care of juveniles as ‘frontline workers’

On 11th May, 2021 the Chief Justice of the High Court in Gauhati (Assam) held that those persons who take care of juveniles in Juvenile in Assam must be considered as ‘frontline workers’. This must be done for their safety as well as the safety of the juveniles.

Relevant extracts of the said order have been reproduced below-

“There are various Juvenile Justice Homes and Child Care Centres spread throughout the State of Assam, both private as well as Government. The persons, who are taking care of juveniles in these Juvenile Centres, need to be vaccinated for their safety, but also for the safety of the juveniles. We, therefore, direct the State Government to consider treating these persons, who are taking care of Juvenile Care Centres as “frontline warriors”, and vaccinate them so that they do not pass on the disease to the children, who are under their care.”
