Treatment for Black Fungus in Guwahati

On 20th May, 2021, the Government of Assam released a standard operating procedure for cases of black fungus to provide treatment for patients affected with it.

It is a fungus that can develop in patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, immuno-suppressed patients, those with prolonged ICU stay, people with HIV, malnutrition, and trauma.

Symptoms:

1) Nasal blockage, pain over cheekbone and eyes

2) Blood stained/black nasal discharge

3) Congestion and swelling of eyes and nose

4) Difficulty in vision

5) Headache and difficulty in vision, fever, seizures, altered mental state

6) Toothache, loosening of teeth and jaw involvement

7) Redness, or black discoloration in skin

Precautions:

1) Use masks if visiting dusty places

2) Wear shoes, long trousers, long sleeve shirts and gloves when handling soil

3) Maintain personal hygeine.
