Traffic Police may order rapid Antigen test, collect Aadhar and phone number of lockdown violators.

On 26th April, 2021 the Aurangabad Bench of the High Court of Bombay gave wide powers to the Traffic Police to take action against those violating lockdown rules. A rapid antigen test can be undertaken for such violators and personal information including Aadhar details and phone numbers of the violators may be collected.

Relevant extracts of the said judgment have been reproduced below-

“We leave it open to the Road Traffic Police Officer to subject lock-down restrictions violators, as well as, the violators of the directions being issued in this order, to rapid Antigen test and for which the said candidate should be carrying his/her Aadhaar card and should divulge his cell phone number, in the absence of which, his landline number. We permit such police personnel to take photographs of the Aadhaar card while registering an offence and for the purposes of conducting rapid Antigen test.”
