Your driver’s license is valid, even if it expired during the pandemic.

On 26th March, 2021 the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification stating that travel related documents such as licenses that had expired since 1st Feb, 2020 would be deemed to be valid till 30th June, 2021. Relevant extracts of the notification have been reproduced below-

 “Taking into consideration the grim situation still continuing for prevention of spread of COVID-19 across the country, it is advised that the validity of all the above referred documents whose extension of validity of all of the above referred documents whose extension of validity could not be, or was not likely to be, granted due to lock-down and/or COVID-19 and which had expired since 1st Feb, 2020 or would expire by 30th June, 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till 30th June, 2021.”

Some of the documents referred are-

  • Fitness

  • Permit (all types)

  • Driving License

  • Registration or

  • Any other concerned documents related to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and its Rules.
