Punjab and Haryana High Court permit import of ventilators

On 28th May, 2021 the High Court of Punjab and Haryana held that the import of ventilators can be permitted so long as within 24 hours after receipt of such ventilators, the competent authority must inspect them with regard to their quality.

Relevant extracts have been reproduced below-

"When the nation is witnessing huge number of deaths everyday and certain deaths have happened for want of ventilators, the denial of permission to import the ventilators by the administration is not in the interest of the patients. Therefore, we order that the import of ventilators in question be allowed without further delay, incase the same carry certification from the manufacturer."
