Scheme for COVID orphans in Odisha

On 20th June, 2021, the Government of Odisha issued a notification to provide for children who have lost one or both their parents after April 1, 2020. They are to be given Rs. 2,500 per month until the child attains 18 years of age or till adoption, whichever is earlier. The money should be transferred to the bank account of the care giver.

However, if the child is placed in institutional care they shall be paid a sum of Rs. 1000 per month till the child attains 18 years of age. A sum of Rs. 1,500 per month shall be given to the child in case they continue living with the remaining parent.

The Child will be covered under the State Health Assurance Scheme: Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana. The child will be included as beneficiary and avail entitlements under the National Food Security Act or State Food Security Scheme.

The child will get free education as far as possible, preferably in the same school they were going to prior to the death of the second parent. For higher education, the child will be linked with the Department of Higher Education’s Green Passage scheme for further education.
